Death toll after protests against UN mission in Congo rises to 22

The death toll as a result of several days of protests against the UN mission in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to at least 22. Another 67 people were injured, some seriously, government spokesman Patrick Muyaya Katembwe said on Wednesday. The riots began on Monday when protesters violently entered a United Nations (UN) building in the city of Goma in the troubled North Kivu province. Security forces responded with tear gas and gunfire.
