MEDIA – Russia will obstruct the “Western media work” on its territory, in retaliation for the decision of European justice to confirm the suspension of the broadcasting of the Russian news channel RT France, the Kremlin said on Wednesday July 27.
“We will take measures to similar pressure aimed at Western media working in our country. We are not going to let them work in our country either,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the press. flexible” from the Russian authorities, he warned. Dmitry Peskov denounced an “attack on freedom of expression and freedom of the press in European countries, including France”.
Accused of being instruments of “disinformation” of the Kremlin, state media Sputnik and RT (including its French-language version RT France) were banned from broadcasting in the EU from March 2, on television and on the internet, following an agreement of the Twenty -Seven shortly after the start of the Russian offensive against Ukraine.
The RT France channel, owned by an association financed by Moscow, ANO-TV Novosti, challenged this measure before the Court of Justice of the EU in Luxembourg.
In its judgment, the EU court argued in particular that the “temporary ban” did “not call into question” the freedom of expression “as such” contrary to what RT France (ex-Russia Today) claimed ― the Russian state media, sanctioned after the launch of the Russian offensive in Ukraine on February 24.
