This hypothesis of the arsonist does not reassure the inhabitants of Biot. A crisis meeting is taking place this Monday morning at the town hall.
In Biot, in the Alpes-Maritimes, seven fires broke out in one week. The hypothesis of voluntary acts is clearly envisaged. The mayor of the city, Jean-Pierre Dermit, also issued a municipal decree on Saturday to prohibit access to all forest areas, at least until August 31.
For the city councilor, there is no doubt that these fires are not the result of chance, but the work of an arsonist.
“Seven departures on fire, in one week, in the town, it’s unheard of, assures the mayor to BFM Nice Côte d’Azur. We are in the middle of the forest and as if by chance, we are close to footpaths. So, for me with certainty, there is an arsonist prowling in the area.”
“It’s really scary”
The arsonist hypothesis does not reassure local residents.
“It’s really distressing to see that around us, says Philippe, a resident of Biot. We have a beautiful forest and we are happy to live there and there we are really anxious. We canceled our vacation, to come back.”
Cst armory opened an investigation. For its part, the municipal police carry out markings which prohibit access to all walkers.
A crisis meeting is taking place this Monday morning at the town hall. Firefighters, gendarmes, police and forest rangers remain mobilized to monitor these areas.
