Anne Heche is in “extreme critical condition” and is in a coma after crashing her car in Los Angeles on Friday.
“At this time Anne is in extreme critical condition,” said Heche’s rep in a statement on Monday. “She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention. She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”
Heche has been hospitalized since Friday, when she crashed into a residence in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, catching both her car and the home on fire. On Saturday, Heche’s publicist released a statement which said the Emmy-nominated actor was “in stable condition.”
According to Deadline, 59 firefighters were called to the scene to fight the fire caused by the accident, which left Heche’s car fully inside the Mar Vista home she crashed into. It took firefighters over an hour to control the flames and rescue Heche from the wreckage. After her rescue, Heche was reportedly able to communicate, but lost consciousness soon after.
Minutes prior to the accident, Heche was captured via doorbell camera allegedly speeding, driving erratically, and, according to Deadline, allegedly getting into a separate minor car accident a few blocks from the crash. Los Angeles Police Department officer Annie Hernandez said that police offers had obtained a warrant to draw blood from the actor.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Lynne Mishele, the woman whose residence was destroyed in the crash. It has already raised over $100,000 as of Tuesday morning. According to the page, Mishele “very narrowly escaped physical harm,” but her home was “completely burned” and she lost “her entire lifetime of possessions.”
