FIFAgate: Two TV executives on trial for soccer corruption in New York

The trial has begun in New York of two former executives of the US TV firm Fox Sports activities and the Argentinian company Full Play.

Hernan Lopez and Carlos Martinez have pleaded not responsible to expenses of corruption, financial institution fraud, and cash laundering, as a part of the so-called FIFAgate scandal.

The US court docket alleges that between 2005 and 2015, “the defendants paid annual bribes and kickbacks” to officers of the South American Soccer Confederation in trade for profitable broadcast rights.

Additionally they allegedly gained insider data to safe US broadcast rights to matches on the 2018 and 2022 World Cup.

The case is a part of the so-called ‘FIFAgate’ corruption scandal that rocked world soccer’s governing physique in 2015, costing then-FIFA president Sepp Blatter his job.
