Activists from Animal Insurrection, a gaggle that advocates a plant-based food regimen, occupied a restaurant owned by three-star Michelin chef Gordon Ramsay in London on Saturday night time.

Fourteen activists went into the restaurant, sat at tables reserved for patrons, and and held up “mock menus” exhibiting the environmental price of the meals on the menu, the group stated in a press release.

“Among the many dishes have been veal and steak, that are among the many meals with the most important carbon footprint and use essentially the most land” for farming, Animal Insurrection stated.

The restaurant needed to shut early Saturday night time when the protesters refused to depart the premises.

That is “the right instance” of inequality within the UK, stated Lucia Alexander, a 39-year-old nurse who took half in  the restaurant occupation.

“Whereas Gordon Ramsay serves meals costing a minimal of 155 kilos (€178) per individual, greater than two million folks depend on meals banks due to this price of dwelling disaster,” she stated.

“As a substitute of the colossal income made by eating places on the expense of animals, staff and our local weather, we must always feed everybody by supporting farmers and fishermen in a transition to a plant-based meals system,” Alexander defined.

A spokesperson for the restaurant criticised the protest as “deeply disrespectful.”

“Everyone seems to be entitled to their opinions and beliefs,” the restaurant stated.

“Nonetheless, forcing your manner right into a restaurant, disrupting hard-working workers and ruining the night for patrons who’ve waited months for his or her reservations is extremely inappropriate.”
