At the very least 1.1 million folks protested on the streets of Paris and different French cities Thursday amid nationwide strikes towards plans to boost the retirement age, however President Emmanuel Macron insisted he would press forward with the proposed pension reforms.
Emboldened by the excessive turnout, French unions introduced new strikes and protests on Jan. 31, vowing to attempt to get the federal government to again down on plans to boost the usual retirement age from 62 to 64.
Macron says the measure is required to maintain the pension system financially viable, however unions say it threatens hard-fought employee rights.
